I was out shopping the other day for Christmas presents and couldn't beleive the amount of utter tat there is out there. Not only is it just junk but it's also pretty expensive. It's as if manufacturers and shops think that we're so utterly desparate to buy stuff that we'll just buy anything. One of the "gifts" I was was a potato bonsai kit. Basically, from what I could tell from the box, is that someone goes out and buys a potato. Leaves it so that it goes all old and horrible for the roots to come out. Then you use the bonsai potato kit to "prune" the roots into a nice shape. So what exactly are you actually buying? I couldn't quite tell. It appears to be some instructions and a pair of tiny pruning scissors. Wow, if you're on minimum wage, you can work for a whole hour to buy someone that. What make me particularly angry is the fact that it will end up being chucked out. Becuase do you really think someone in their right mind is going to have an ugly smelly potato sitting in their living room? I don't bloody think so.

I also saw a gift pack of beer which was supposedly reduced in price so that it was a really great deal. Great deal?! It worked out that it was twice the price of beer you can buy individually out of regular grocery stores. And nice beers at that. Where do people leave their brains when they buy this stuff??? I hope that people aren't dupped by this sort of thing because it's just ridiculous. I what's more, these shops that sell the tat will probably come out in the new year complaining about how the recession is affecting them. Sell some decent stuff at a decent price and you might do better!!!

Something else I saw was a plastic "ice cube" with a fake insect inside. Basically you put it in someone's drink and they're supposed to get the fright of their life. It might not be so bad, but again, it was just junk. The ice cube was actually quite flat and you could barely make out that the thing inside was supposed to be an insect. I despair! It's very worrying that people spend so much money at Christmas and I wonder how much of what they spend ends up actually being appreciated and what ends up either thrown out or given to charity. If you have bad credit and need money now, don't do anything stupid like taking out a payday loan to buy junk for Christmas. Instead look at ways of buying gifts that are thoughtful but inexpensive. You can even make gifts such as Christmas cookies, Christmas decorations or learn how to make your own soap. There must be other things that you cn do that don't involve buying this junk.
